If you’ve always dreamed of creating the next best web app with a beautiful user interface, that people are all but helpless to use because it palm blasts them in the retina, then you, my furry little Sumo-ling, are in the right place.

You’ve seen them all over the internet -- web apps that fail to impress, much less be useful, and that are difficult to use.

Just think about the last time you were sitting at your computer, and you came across a breakthrough web app which did exactly what you needed it to (or so you thought.)

Only to discover that it was excruciatingly painful to learn, unreasonably difficult to use, and just a pain in the Sumo-butt to justify to your sobbing wallet that you “needed” it.

Yeah... I feel ya buddy. This Sumo has cried countless nights for all the poor suckers who design crappy interfaces.

But cry not, Sumo-ling! I have always made it my lifelong mission to cure the double-Ds! (Design-Disease... I see where your mind is going!)

We got an email from design extraordinaire, entrepreneur, and tech geek Sacha Greif, telling us about his new ebook on designing a user interface for web apps.

Sacha runs his own startup Folyo (a private job board for freelancers), and has worked with companies like Hipmunk, MileWise, Code Academy and Sharypic.

If that’s someone you don’t want to learn from, leave, now.

Sacha reveals in plain English all his hidden design secrets that ANYONE can pick up and start learning from, with simple design principles and all the costly mistakes he has made (so you can avoid them.) He also lays out the reason behind each design choice (so you learn what Sacha learned, but only quicker than he did when starting off in his craft.)

Here’s what you’ll get in his Deluxe Edition ebook on UI design:

  • 20 steps that take you from a blank canvas to a rich web app
  • 11 design principles that you can apply to your own project
  • 38 PNG screenshots for every intermediary step
  • Illustrated examples from other apps and sites
  • [Deluxe Edition] A well-organized PSD with all the elements

This Sumo began to make demands for the ebook after reading his email, only to find out that not only does Sacha train in the ways of design, he also trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (true story), which made this Sumo quieter than a mouse pissing on a cotton ball...

But there's more... in addition to the Deluxe Edition ebook on UI design, we've also got our hands on Sacha's mini-Ebook on Color Theory for Startups that isn't available anywhere else - and he's letting us practically give both away at 50% off! ($10, normally $20)

The Color Theory for Startups Ebook is an amazing tool to have alongside the Step by Step UI Design Ebook. If you've ever designed for the web, this scenario might ring a bell: you're ready to build a kick-awesome new site, and your brain is overflowing with ideas. There's just one obstacle: as you're staring at your empty screen, you realize you have no idea what color scheme to pick.

Picking a good color palette is not just a matter of aesthetics: it's a decision that affects your brand, your site's usability, and ultimately, your bottom line. Yet most people still pick colors because of how they look, without giving a second thought to what they mean.

Through 10 real-world examples, Color Theory for Startups will show you the basics of analyzing and choosing colors, and hopefully will make that dreaded white screen a thing of the past for you!

Want to learn what actually makes a web app’s UI functional but also beautiful? Then get these Ebooks TODAY, before this deal ends, or before Big Sumo gets his arm twisted in a pretzel (mmm... pretzel...)

But hey, if you find out that UI design isn’t your thang, just hit us up and we’ll gladly refund 100% of your money back, guaranteed! No questions asked, anytime before you die.

Sumo Samurai Code of Honor.

Sincerely,
The “Wannabe Panda” Chief Sumo

P.S. There’s no magic bullet when it comes to learning, but you’ll definitely get a head start on others and astonish your friends, family, and coworkers with your newly acquired design skills.

Good, but not good enough. Put some meat on these Bad Boys!

I don't know what I expected for $10 but it was a good intro to the subject but I'm not sure if it was good enough: had enough substance aka no meat in this Taco.

The color theory book was more like a presentation/slide show that very briefly touched on the subject of color and how it can further a theme or concept but it didn't go much further than that. No Meat!!

The UI design book went into more detail about the writer's process for one type of website but I think in order to buy this type of book it would be more appropriate to show the process and thinking behind the designs at least 5 of the most popular type of websites....and write some conclusions and insights about designing these types of sites. Maybe a bullet point list of things to keep in mind when designing each type of site would be best.

Both book have good potential and the authors are capable but there are no take aways and I feel shorted on this order. Is it an attention span thing? I don't know, but next time put some meet on these bad boys Sumo!

This is just a step-by-step on making a chat room app. Not a detailed one at that.
The color theory book is just looking at sites and pointing out obvious decisions the designer has made. This is probably the worst thing I have bought on AppSumo.

For $10 I can expect a hamburger and some fizzy drink. Keeping that in mind, this deal delivers a lot. I just wish he designed more than a chat application, not something that is very common. More business orientated would be better. But that is a minor gripe.

These are fast reads, more magazine feature article than ebook. I enjoyed the color theory one, the UI one felt like it was screenshots and lacked takeaways. But was only $10, not $100 after all. 3 tacos

It's more of a quality tutorial then anything meaty, not what I was look for at all but then it does say step-by-step in the description! Great for beginners, not so useful for more accomplished designers.

Colour theory book again only really good for those at the start of their learning but doesn't really cover anything but some thoughts on the matter.

Rating set on assumption your a beginner!
