QUICK NOTE: If you build apps (web apps or iPhone apps) or plan on building one. Then we got something that’ll highly interest you. Read on! Otherwise you can skip reading this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let’s say this flat out: We’ve got an eBook that has stories from 39 different people who went from full-time desk jockeys -to- running profitable app businesses. These individual-people-turned-APPpreneurs were either working full-time jobs, working as freelancers, or just messin’ around with side-projects at first. But eventually they stumbled upon either a web app or mobile app that launched them to a new level. SO how did they do it? That’s exactly what this eBook covers. You get the inside story from the founders of these apps (with specific examples, detailed graphs, profit numbers etc.) so you can learn (or steal!) from them. If you’ve dreamed about starting a side app business, The SideProject Handbook will INSPIRE you in creating a web or iPhone app. Plus you’ll see 39 success-stories that will fuel that greedy brain of yours with marketing ideas and ideas for apps ;-) Some of the stuff the book covers:
What this book is NOT meant for:
This book will motivate your ass into gear after seeing 39 “regular people” start successful app businesses. I'mma let Chad Boyda (aka "Tech-Guru Sumo") describe why he loves this deal: (BTW.....Doesn't Chad look like Ron from Office Space?? Or Seth McFarlane??) So you’re getting 39 stories from a range of companies like:
Here’s what you get after you submit your $17 in cash to this Sumo (which I will use to buy tacos):
So while you’re commuting, waiting around, or taking a dump (my favorite).....you can start reading this on whatever device you want. We ONLY want you to buy this if you wanna be inspired and get motivated to start your own app project on the side! What side project will YOU BUILD today? Chief "Love-me-some-side-projects-and-side-dishes" Sumo P.S. For 1 person who buys this, email me (noah-at-appsumo-dot-com) and I will be your FIRST customer. |
I expected to find an ebook, not recycled interview transcripts that had previously been parts of blogs. With that being said, there's still lots of good information contained that can be extracted and applied - I think if the blog content were taken and then curated into a book format it could have been more impactful and better written.

I read the excerpt from Patrick McKenzie a month ago, and the book seemed like it'd be perfect for wantrepreneurs who were also code monkeys (me). Decided against it at $34, but figured it'd be worth a shot at $17.

People who know programming did side projects and were successful. Brilliant. What I did learn from this book? Asking for my refund! (my first ever on Appsumo)

The 39 interviews were all interesting and worth a read, though not everyone's experiences should lead to following it as a reference. There are some good nuggets in this book. I would have liked to have more content or detail in some cases.
It seems like an updated Founders At Work, and even at $17 I thought it was a bit overpriced. The former book on Amazon runs at $12.96 - $15.31 This was my reason for 3 stars

Really enjoyed the content, but was a little disappointed to see that most of the case studies were of people who were web developers and coders. Also, a good number were not iPhone app success stories, they were desktop application stories.
I think the description could be a little clearer. I was hoping for success stories of iPhone apps with creators who were new at it and built it from the ground up with little to no experience. Probably asking a bit much to niche it down that far, but that was what I had hoped for, considering I'm interested in starting an app business with no coding experience myself.

Thanks Richard, your outline and frustration at what the product didn't deliver is exactly the impression I got from the ad that it would! Though once I'd looked at the sales page and also the fact that I could return it to the chief sumo for a refund I bought anyway.
You might prefer 'How To Make iPhone Apps With No Programming Experience' by FreeTheApps an EXCELLENT introduction into the sector.

I read 3/4 of it in 3 days, and the sad thing is I only have 1/4 left, it is like I have eaten 3/4 of the cake...and now I am about to be left over with no more. What I find really interesting is the common ideas that are shared between all the stories...and that is what can help you tremendously...it is always interesting to get different perspective on that subject and it is rare to see that all in one place. Read it!

A real smorgasboard of different mobile app sideprojects. I found myself picking the ones that interested me first, but great back stories to all of them and useful insights to these folks' challenges, motivations, lessons learned etc.

I give AppSumo credit for comments. I really wanted to buy this but after reviewing the reviews, I am holding off.
No fault against the creators but if it's blog stuff put together, I'd prefer to just hit up the blogs. Plus, first line in copy about apps really caught my eye but appears that most people didn't feel enough existed.
