Hi Pat, thinking about getting this membership plugin. are you finding it easy to use? I'm a little worried about installation. Can I just upload the zip file into WP like any other plugin or must I go through a FTP client?

If you are currently a member at WPMUdev, then you can install this plugin from your WPMUdev dashboard. (if you have that installed: http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/wpmu-dev-dashboard/). Otherwise, you do need to upload it via FTP.
Regarding use, there is a learning curve (as with any product with such extensive functionality), but it's much easier to grasp than some other membership plugins I've used. Take it one step at a time, read any and all docs, and be sure you also download the manual. You'll find the link under the "Usage" tab here:http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/membership/

Did I buy a plugin or did I purchase a membership for a plugin? I registered with the WPMU site and it says that my "membership" expires on October 12, 2012. So for $9 I got a month of access to a website? I thought I was purchasing unlimited rights to use a plugin. I would like clarification or a refund.

You only get one month of updates. After being a member for a year I discarded using WPMU DEV tools. I agree with you: this promotion leads to confusion. Of course, it's theoretically possible to use the plugins for as long as you wish, but considering the frequent WP updates a subscription is a must. Conclusion: There are better and more affordable solutions.

I own a full premium membership with WPMU DEV and this product and their customer support is gold class standard. I'd find it much harder to be able to develop such extensive websites without their products and help.
