Ok this is the first and probably the last review I will do on this site.
Pre-purchased Thesis 2.0 because I wanted to build a site with the Social Triggers Skin.
First release of the product was a disaster and came out later than expected. Still don't know how to get the Social Triggers skin or the boxes that were supposed to be included as an Appsumo bonus.
Official DIY response to questions on the DIY site has been non-existent...since when did I have to follow someone on twitter to get updates when they have a blog and forums on their own site but don't use it to communicate with customers?
DIY has moderators in the forum but at best they just make excuses for the sloppy roll-out and about the best they have done is to ask us to be patient and tell us it will get better.
Whatever happened to programmers testing their own code, then sending it over to QA for integration compatibility testing before releasing an alpha, then beta, then soft launch?
This whole "buy it now" product launch rush before the product is even ready is a case study in how not to do a software release.
Ok, back to the website I put off building waiting for Thesis and the Social Triggers skin. Its been 10 days now and still no idea when, where or how the skin will be available. Should have just built the website with Studio Press Genesis as originally planned...at least I know that works.
Dear Chief Sumo, please let me know how to get the Appsumo bonuses as I can't figure it out from the DIY site.
Best
Ok, so it has been almost 2 weeks since Thesis 2.0 was released and still no skins or boxes (which are needed to get the most out of the framework) and worse of all no documentation. Support forums are saying don't upgrade to 2.0 yet...wait for them to work the bugs out. Are you kidding me?

I love Thesis since the day I discovered it. The support we get in the forums and the Internet makes it very easy to use. However, along with many other users I have to admit I have been very disappointed with the whole release process.
With all due respect to Chris Pearson and the Thesis brand, how can you release a software with no documentation supporting your product? You claim you have the best WordPress framework and template system on the market and I agree with you. But releasing a product with no documentation is very mickey mouse. We spend our hard earned money on a product but its worthless because we don’t know how to use it.
I know Chris Pearson has tweeted that a documentation is coming in about 30 days but it should have been already written and released to the public. Imagine a company like Apple or Adobe releasing a new product with no documentation or manual. They would probably quote the same words I just expressed. This is not an attack but more of me just adding my two cents worth.

Mmm... never really had a complaint with Appsumo products before, but they sold this before any product was ready.
Got an e-mail this morning (3rd Oct) saying '...we recommend you don't use Thesis 2.0 on your production sites just yet.'
Why is it for sale then? A week before launch...
And where are the bonuses?
Poor show all round in my eyes.

Looks like they really rushed this launch. There's no theme documentation whatsoever (only referring to the old 1.8.5 version). How can you launch a theme and not provide your customers with the proper documentation? How long do I have to wait until they publish some tutorials or a user guide?
I'm a webdesigner and I'm used to tinkering with themes from various providers, as well as creating themes from scratch. But I can't get anything done with Thesis. The skin editor doesn't load correctly on Chrome for mac, the interface is clumsy and non-intuitive... very disappointing.

Don't know. Didn't get it. Still don't have it because it hasn't been delivered as promised.
Didn't get bonuses promised either. Almost two weeks late and still nothing!

Has the potential to be a great product, but at this time, it doesn't even work properly. Company released the product with several bugs and is encouraging users not to upgrade to 2.0 at this time. In addition, there is no documentation currently available for this product. Very disappointing. While I do look forward to using the product once it is actually useable and documentation is available, I have no idea when that will be.

I've used iThemes Builder for the past six months and look forward to implementing Thesis.
However, the launch and bonuses promised by DIY and Appsumo have failed to meet expectations. I know launches don't always arrive on-time but with all of the hype and push to get our orders in by September 30th only to receive a late product and no bonuses...
I suspect AppSumo and DIY need to make this up to all customers.

Do NOT underestimate Thesis theme when you accidentally land on Matt Cutts' blog. :) Do-Whatsoever-You-Like Thesis is almost landing on number two lane.

I heard a lot about Thesis before finding this deal. I always put off purchasing it until now. I love that now I have unlimited access for my own sites for this great theme.
My only disappointment was the delivery of Thesis 2.0 and the extras took (taking) longer than expected. I was under the impression that the release date was right after the deal expired.

it's 8 months later and this deal STILL in complete~
What a waste of money. What happened to getting your lifetime refund - no questions asked? That's why I took a risk with a pre-order (that STILL hasn't delivery skins and other bonuses offered???)
I want my money back!

With all the hype leading up to this, I thought it would be worth pre-purchasing. Thank god AppSumo had a refund policy for this! Love you AppSumo.

I purchased this last September but my hard disk crashed, can I still avail of the bonuses? Thanks.

I’m a Thesis user before the 2.0 release and I always thought it was a great theme. However, the whole 2.0 release is a joke. There is absolutely no documentation on how to use Thesis 2.0 and I don’t stand-alone. There are many people in the support forums that are expressing their frustrations. If you purchased Thesis 2.0 through AppSumo I would ask for my money back because the product is worthless since there is no manual or documentation.

When we buy, can we remove the made by thesis credit and put our own text in there?

Has anyone used the Builder framework from iThemes? I'm trying to make an informed decision before purchasing Thesis or Builder. Thanks.

Can you still use plugins in thesis?

Does Thesis 2.0 theme work with OptimizePress?
Scott Lovingood
Thesis and OP are both themes. You cannot install and use them at the same site at the same time.

Thanks Scott. you are right. I confused WP plugins with themes.

I know Thesis is awesome but I have to say, one of the main reasons I went through with the purchase was the bonus of a SocialTriggers skin. Looking forward to seeing it and using it Derek!

I'm a genesis user and never have used thesis. One common comment is that the thesis installation process isn't the no brainier that genesis is. For thesis 2, can I install via wp or do I have to make folder changes on my site?
Derek Halpern
You will be able to upload Thesis through the WordPress dashboard without a hitch in most environments. There are some web host settings that may not allow this, but we believe it will work with a majority of web hosts.

I have had Thesis for a while and have always uploaded it through WP. FTP can be faster but 2.0 uploaded fine

Great to see Derek H. replying to comments.
Is the new Thesis similar to Genesis framework + add-on theme? Hard to tell what the difference is.
I bought Thesis a long time ago, but moved over to Genesis. How can I upgrade a really old version of Thesis? Do I need to re-install and upgrade from within the admin area?
Did you get rid of the "Big Ass Save Button"?
Derek Halpern
The big ass save button is gone. Unfortunately. :-(.

FYI: You can change that text, under Site Options. That big ole button can say anything you want it to!

Maybe there is something I'm missing, but on their website (http://diythemes.com/plans/), the price of the Developer's Option for Thesis is the same as the discounted price here, $164. It makes it sound like we are not getting a deal here because that's the normal price available to everyone anyway.
Derek Halpern
You're gaining access to the Appsumo exclusive bonuses, though. That's the benefit.
September 25, 2012

I already own the developers license, so I am getting Thesis 2.0 included. (Very excited to commence implementing!) How can I get access to these AppSumo bonuses?

So, if we purchase today we will get 1.85 developer to use now and free lifetime updates and a developer license for version 2 and up?
Will we also get immediate access to the forum on the thesis web site?

Here are some pictures of version 2.

If you purchase today, you'll get Thesis 1.8.5 to use until October 1 (or as long as you like), and you'll also get free lifetime upgrades to Thesis.
And yes, you'll get immediate access to the Thesis Support Forums, too.
September 24, 2012

I looked at 1.85 and seems that you have to be a coder to use the framework, do you still have to do this in the new version 2? Or is it mostly drag and drop?

If 164 dollars is stopping you from running one of the smoothest Themes for wordpress and giving you the edge on your competition then please..don't get it. Don't do what you need to do if you don't have it at the moment.
A theme that requires virtually no pluggins isn't something you find when it comes to wordpress themes and the DIY team has done it.
The support alone from the Thesis team is well worth the price.

Here is what is annoying about this 'deal':
We, the potential customers, are offered no insight into how this new framework will function. There is only a small bulleted list of features. I am supposed to take it on faith that this is an excellent product, with no way to kick its tires, and for that pleasure I am supposed to spring for $164? Total rubbish.
Are the extra bonuses that amazing? No, there are plenty of ways to implement the same thing.
Is the lifetime license worth it? Probably. But it's hard to sell air.
The only saving grace is the Sumo guarantee:
"100% money back guarantee! For any reason Anytime before you die."
I am leaning toward buying it because I worked with Thesis for a past client and it was 'okay'. I prefer Ultimatum, Catalyst and Thematic... but who knows what kind of greatness Pearson's cooked up in four years? But it's annoying that I am expected to put down that amount of money on a promise.
Sumo-ling
Agree with you.

Hey Ansel,
We created a separate page, with screenshots of Thesis 2.0, and you can check it out here:
http://www.appsumo.com/thesis-2-info/
We're in no way trying to "sell air," and we fully stand behind the value of this product. Be sure to read through the above link before you make a decision.
Let me know if you need anything else :).
Thanks,
Daniel

Check out our first intro post on Thesis 2. Hopefully, I've answered some of your questions:
